Acupuncture for Fertility & Reproductive Health in Mumbai
Evidence-based TCM treatment for women navigating fertility challenges, hormonal imbalances, IVF support, and the full spectrum of reproductive health — at Balancepoint Chinese Med Clinic, Bandra.
Fertility Is a System. We Treat It That Way.
Hormonal, structural, immunological, and psychological — when fertility breaks down, it rarely does so in one place. The treatments that work best address the whole picture, not a single biomarker.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been treating reproductive health for over 2,000 years. The clinical evidence base has grown substantially in the last two decades: studies in Fertility and Sterility and Human Reproduction demonstrate measurable effects on ovarian blood flow, hormonal regulation, implantation rates, and IVF outcomes.
At Balancepoint, TCM diagnosis runs alongside — not instead of — your existing gynaecological and reproductive medical care. Every patient receives a complete clinical intake before treatment begins.
Patients treated across all conditions at Balancepoint. Reproductive health is one of our deepest clinical specialities.
Clinical experience in TCM reproductive health — PCOS, IVF support, endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage, and beyond.
We coordinate with your IVF team, gynaecologist, and endocrinologist. Balancepoint complements — never competes with — your medical care.

How Acupuncture Supports Fertility
The evidence base for acupuncture in reproductive health is one of the most developed in integrative medicine. Here is what the research shows — and what Balancepoint applies clinically.
Hormonal Regulation
Acupuncture stimulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis — the control system regulating FSH, LH, oestrogen, and progesterone. Stener-Victorin et al. demonstrated acupuncture’s capacity to modulate GnRH and reduce androgen levels in PCOS.
Ovarian Blood Flow
Uterine and ovarian blood flow directly affects egg quality and endometrial receptivity. Acupuncture improves microcirculation to reproductive organs — a critical factor in natural conception and IVF outcomes.
Stress & Cortisol Modulation
Elevated cortisol suppresses reproductive hormones. The fertility journey is one of the most psychologically demanding experiences in a person’s life. Acupuncture regulates the HPA axis and cortisol — with clinical significance beyond the hormonal benefit alone.
Endometrial Receptivity
Studies show improved endometrial thickness and receptivity following acupuncture courses in women preparing for embryo transfer. Implantation depends on the uterine environment — and TCM has documented tools to optimise it.
Inflammation Reduction
Endometriosis, PCOS, and unexplained infertility all carry inflammatory components. Acupuncture modulates pro-inflammatory cytokines — reducing systemic inflammation without pharmacological side effects.
Combined Modality Approach
Balancepoint always uses multiple modalities in combination — acupuncture, moxibustion, dietary counselling, and Chinese herbal supplementation where indicated. The combination compounds the clinical benefit across all mechanisms above.
How TCM Understands Fertility
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, reproductive health is governed by the Kidney system — which encompasses the body’s foundational reproductive essence (Jing), hormonal reserves, and constitutional vitality. Accurate pattern diagnosis is what distinguishes effective TCM fertility treatment from generic acupuncture.
| TCM Pattern | What It Looks Like Clinically | Treatment Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Kidney Yang Deficiency | Cold extremities, low libido, fatigue, slow basal temperature, poor luteal phase | Warm Kidney Yang; strengthen root |
| Kidney Yin Deficiency | Night sweats, short cycles, dry cervical fluid, poor egg quality | Nourish Yin; moisten and tonify |
| Liver Qi Stagnation | Irregular cycles, PMS, breast tenderness, stress-related disruption | Move Qi; calm Liver; regulate cycle |
| Blood Stagnation | Painful periods, dark clotted blood, endometriosis, fibroids | Invigorate Blood; clear Stagnation |
| Phlegm-Damp Obstruction | PCOS pattern, weight accumulation, cystic ovaries, sluggish metabolism | Resolve Phlegm; strengthen Spleen |
| Qi & Blood Deficiency | Scanty periods, fatigue, pale complexion, poor endometrial lining | Build Qi and Blood; nourish uterus |

What a Treatment Course Looks Like
Every patient at Balancepoint receives a personalised protocol based on their TCM pattern diagnosis, reproductive history, and current medical management. Below is a general guide — your actual course is determined at your first session.
First Session
15–20 min full TCM & reproductive health intake — cycle history, hormonal investigations reviewed, pulse and tongue diagnosis, pattern identification, treatment plan. Followed by 45–60 min treatment.
Standard Fertility Course
12–16 sessions over 3–4 months, aligned with menstrual cycle phases. Typically twice weekly for the first 4 weeks, then weekly.
IVF Support Protocol
Concentrated protocol in the weeks surrounding retrieval and transfer. Minimum entry point: start of stimulation cycle, with sessions on the day of transfer.
Combined Approach
Acupuncture + moxibustion + dietary counselling + Chinese herbal supplementation where indicated. Multiple modalities used in every session. Most covered under your base plan.
No commitment required: You come for your first session, see how Balancepoint works, and decide from there. Most patients who come once continue — because the results show up.
Fertility Acupuncture FAQs
Can acupuncture alone help me get pregnant?
For some patients, yes — particularly those with PCOS, irregular cycles, or stress-related fertility issues. For others, acupuncture is most effective as a complement to IVF or other reproductive assistance. Balancepoint will give you an honest clinical assessment at your first session.
When should I start acupuncture if I’m doing IVF?
Ideally 2–3 months before your retrieval cycle, to allow time for hormonal regulation and follicle quality improvement. Minimum: begin at the start of your stimulation cycle, with sessions on the day of transfer.
How many sessions are needed for PCOS?
Most patients begin to see measurable hormonal and cycle changes within 8–12 sessions. A full 3–4 month course is recommended for lasting regulation — aligned with 2–3 complete menstrual cycles. Read more about acupuncture for PCOS →
Is acupuncture safe during the two-week wait after embryo transfer?
Yes. Post-transfer acupuncture using gentle, uterus-supporting protocols is safe and has evidence supporting improved implantation rates. Balancepoint uses specific post-transfer protocols — not standard acupuncture.
Can acupuncture help with male fertility too?
Yes. Sperm quality, motility, and morphology all respond to acupuncture and TCM treatment. Balancepoint frequently treats both partners simultaneously in couples fertility programmes. Learn about acupuncture for male fertility →
Do I need to stop my fertility medications before starting acupuncture?
No. Acupuncture is fully compatible with Clomid, Letrozole, gonadotropins, and all standard IVF medications. Never adjust medication without medical guidance.
What is TCM’s explanation for unexplained infertility?
TCM diagnosis frequently identifies patterns — Kidney deficiency, Blood Stagnation, Liver Qi Stagnation — in patients who have received a clean bill of health from conventional testing. These patterns are clinically real, diagnosable, and treatable.
Does Balancepoint treat recurrent miscarriage?
Yes. TCM pattern diagnosis and treatment has a strong clinical record in supporting patients with recurrent pregnancy loss — particularly where immunological or hormonal factors are involved. Read more about acupuncture for recurrent miscarriage →
